My 15 month old son is already a bit of a gearhead. The three things he loves the most in the world are Pororo, the Korean cartoon; bananas; and cars. He gets excited when we leave the home because he can see cars on the street, and goes around saying " cah!" the whole day. He even already has a small collection of cars at home.
So this week we're in South Korea visiting family and he's getting enough of Pororo. Today we passed by Lotte Mart in Seoul Station and my wife had a coupon for 20,000 Won in toys (about $20). This is what we got him since he loves his cars, six Tomica miniatures for his collection:
The cars are from left to right, top to bottom:
Morita FFA-001 firetruck, 1/74 scale
Suzuki Carry RV, 1/55 scale
Mercedes Benz Unimog, 1/88 scale
Toyota AE86, 1/60 scale
Subaru Impreza WRX bugeye, unmarked police car, 1/59 scale
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, 1/61 scale
That way he has a good mix of utility and sports cars. The scales vary a bit but they are all the same length, not like that matters a lot to a young toddler. Right now he's playing with his new cars and having a blast, saying "cah, cah!" even more.
A little gearhead in the making...

I want that tomica unimog.
Tomica is a bit expensive in my place, about 3$ each.

Please donate that bugeye to a bugeye owner? :)

The Unimog is my favorite too! They were $3.9 each so yes, expensive, but making a toddler happy makes up for it. Since we a $20 coupon they were free to us, so the price was right!

Yep, that's right!
Especially Tomicas have movable things, like doors, backs, etc.

HIS FUTURE IS TO DRIVE THIS THROUGH SOUTH KOREA.

My dad as a child played with Tomica his entire life as a child. Late in his car playing childhood he realized how much they were worth and then started buying them but keeping them in their boxes. When he left for college in Macau, my grandma gave them all to the nearby kids. My dad was sad but would never get mad at grandma. But he has the moments when he sees his insignificant toy car on Ebay for $140. HAHA. But because of this, it's now a tradition (an entire two generation tradition) that the kid plays with toy cars and we'd never get rid of them. Because of this, I have a set of toy cars in Hong Kong and a set of toy cars since I've moved to the US. :P

Literally the first word I could understand from my eldest daughter besides for mama and dada was ya-wah as she was pointing to an XJ8 in the driveway. Still at 4 says she wants to be a mechanic. Start em young!

Fuck yeah, Tomica! Still one of the coolest diecast brands out there, too bad they're so expensive when importing from Brazil. I've been wanting to pick up a couple more for ages now, but the customs office always gets in the way :/

Feels weird typing in Portuguese on Oppo :p
